Don’t Go Down in the Mine, Dad by Stanley Kirkby (1910)
CD 3, track 9
Baritone singer Stanley Kirkby (1878-1949) was a popular English music hall performer who sang a wide variety of material, not only tear-jerkers such as “Don’t Go Down in the Mine, Dad.” He recorded the latter for Edison, Regal, and Zonophone; it crossed over to the U.S. in 1911 and subsequently entered into American folklore.
