Dixie Medley by Fred Van Eps (1911)
CD 2, track 21
Along with Vess Ossman, Fred Van Eps (1878-1960) was the most widely recorded banjo player of the acoustic era. In fact, a young Van Eps studied the cylinders of Ossman to improve his playing. His “Dixie Medley,” recorded in 1911, includes “Dixie,” “My Old Kentucky Home,” “Arkansas Traveler,” “Old Folks at Home,” “Turkey in the Straw,” and “Aunt Dinah’s Quilting Party.”
