“When You and I Were Young, Maggie” was written in 1864 by Canadian George W. Johnson and set to music by James A. Butterfield and published in 1866. Former minstrel man Will Oakland (born Herman Hinrichs, 1883-1956) sings it here on a 2-minute cylinder from 1908, only his second title for Edison.
