Today’s Before the Big Bang reveal is “I Wish I Was a Mole in the Ground” from 1924 by Bascom Lamar Lunsford (1882-1973). It was from his first commercial session—which was acoustic—but he recorded it again electrically in 1928. That’s the one most people know, as it was included on Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music. See if you don’t agree that the original is darker and more haunting.
