10/14/20: "Snow Dear" by Jimmie Wilson's Catfish String Band (1925)

Snow Dear by Jimmie Wilson’s Catfish String Band (1925)

CD 5, track 25

Today’s reveal is a most unusual one, showing us a different string band sound from an area of the country different from Appalachia. Recorded this month 95 years ago in Dallas, it’s “Snow Dear” [sic] by Jimmie Wilson’s Catfish String Band, a group popular on Oklahoma radio in the 1920s. Instruments include fiddle, banjo, mandolin, string bass, slide whistle, harmonica, stovepipe, and bones. Thanks to fellow Texan Colin Hancock for the record and the group pic!
