Rain Crow Bill Blues by Henry Whitter (1923)
CD 5, track 8
From late 1923 comes “Rain Crow Bill Blues,” a harmonica solo by Henry Whitter (1892-1941). Whitter is another performer who allegedly showed up unannounced in New York demanding an audition, and he claimed to have made his first records in Feb. 1923, ten months before files confirm his presence in a studio. It may be that, in later years, Whitter was trying to establish his place of priority over Fiddlin’ John Carson, who recorded in June 1923.
