Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss by Samantha Bumgarner (1924)
CD 5, track 14
One of the first women from a rural community to make a commercial record of old-time music was North Carolinian Samantha Bumgarner (1878-1960). Besides playing banjo, as she does here on “Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss” (1924), she was also proficient on fiddle. Bumgarner provides her own square-dance calls.
