Lonesome Road Blues by Henry Whitter (1923)
CD 6, track 6
Just like yesterday with Carson, except today it’s Henry Whitter with “Lonesome Road Blues” from 1923. Every bit as important as the better-known side, “The Wreck on the Southern Old 97,” the flip-side of Whitter’s disc, “Lonesome Road Blues,” is a landmark recording in the early days of the “Hillbilly” market. Whitter and Carson were aware of each other’s records, and each jockeyed to assert his place as “first” in the field.
