Boll Weevil Blues by Gid Tanner (1925)
CD 6, track 18
The boll weevil, which feeds upon cotton crops, holds special contempt among Southern farmers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Fiddler Gid Tanner’s tale gives the critter some anthropomorphic sympathy. First recorded early 1924 but rejected until takes 5 and 6, made in January 1925.
