Recorded Oct. 23, 1905, here is a home recording of “Bonaparte’s March,” made on a brown-wax cylinder, location unknown. The performer gives his name, but it is difficult to parse, and “H. R. Rawver” is our phonetic best guess. It’s a real window into life and music practices 115 years ago.
