Robert Hoffman takes credit for the music of “I’m Alabama Bound,” recorded by Prince’s Orchestra in 1910, but the tune has traditional roots. Even Jelly Roll Morton claimed to have written it, and his 1939 recording of “Don’t You Leave Me Here” includes verses from it.
