Today’s Before the Big Bang reveal: “Hayseed Rag,” a novelty fox trot by The Dizzy Trio. This was an ad hoc group that made only this one record in August 1924 and featured Roy Smeck (pictured) on banjo and jew’s harp, Borrah Minevitch on harmonica, and Carson Robison on guitar. Nat Shilkret plays piano. You’ll hear several tunes quoted in the medley, including “Old Folks at Home” and “Turkey in the Straw,” as well as “Down Home Rag.”
