Dese Bones Shall Rise Again by Minstrels (1903)
CD 3, track 3
Once upon a time everybody enjoyed a good minstrel show, whether you were a city slicker or a farmer from the country. Records that presented miniature recreations of minstrel shows began coming on the market by 1894. In this sketch from 1903, called “Dese Bones Shall Rise Again” (named for the faux jubilee song performed at the end of the routine), brothers Len and Harry Spencer give one of the funniest and most rapid-fire exchanges you will ever hear on an old record.
